18 Aug Why You Need a Real Live Homeschool Friend
“We couldn’t clean up our lives and present them on social media with the appearance of Pinterest perfection. But we were better off for it.”
I’m sharing this blog, “Why Homeschool Moms Need Homeschool Friends,” this week because I think it relays an important message about homeschooling moms and friendship. In our virtual world, such as it is, we tend to believe we are connected to others when, in reality, we tend to live very disconnected and lonely lives.
There was no internet when I was first homeschooling. Think about that; there wasn’t even email! We received newsletters in the mailbox, belonged to phone chains, and attended support group functions. We had to make efforts to get together and share our lives. We couldn’t clean up our lives and present them on social media with the appearance of Pinterest perfection. But we were better off for it. We found friends with whom we could share the realities of life. We learned that our problems were common and we helped one another through. Often times if we felt that homeschooling was hard, we found that maybe we were trying too hard or putting too much pressure on ourselves and our children. I can’t imagine homeschooling without my friends who were also on the journey or without those who had gone before.
